    Nobuki Takamen Trio

    Guitarist/composer Nobuki Takamen was born in Hiroshima, Japan. Jazz historian Scott Yanow describes him as ”an excellent improviser in his own bop-inspired style.” John Heidt of Vintage Guitar Magazine has also called him ”a mature player with keen sense of composition [and] considerable technical skill.”

    A mainstay of the New York jazz scene, Nobuki has toured with his group in North America and Europe, performing at some of the best international jazz festivals and clubs including the Montreal International Jazz Festival, the Rochester International Jazz Festival, Blue Note NY, Iridium Jazz Club, Blues Alley and Smalls Jazz Club. He has also toured annually throughout Japan since 2004.

    Nobuki released two albums on What’s New Records. His third album, Live at the Iridium, released on Summit Records, presents a complete, uncut performance from a set at Iridium Jazz Club in 2009. His forth album, Three Wishes, recorded with his trio, was also released on Summit Records in 2012. Nobuki’s playing and music have been featured in publications worldwide, including DownBeat, Vintage Guitar Magazine, Just Jazz Guitar, AllAboutJazz, Jazz Podium, Jazz’n’more, Jazz Special, Musica Jazz and Jazzwise.

    Besides leading his group, Nobuki has been playing solo frequently since his solo concert at the Montreal International Jazz Festival as part of 100% Guitare in 2009. He recorded his first solo guitar album one month prior to his Europe tour in August 2014. This album, Solo Guitar was released in December 2014. Vintage Guitar Magazine commented: ”Takamen is a master. Beautiful solo guitar”.

    In 2016, Nobuki released his sixth album, Live in Japan. This 2-disc album was recorded live during his tour in his native country in 2015, with his long-time musical collaborators, Toshiyuki Tanahashi on bass and Naoki Aikawa on drums. Mark Sullivan of AllAboutJazz remarked of this trio music: ”This is jazz guitar trio music at its finest”.

    Kent Thompson Trio

    Kent Thompson is a New York freelance guitar player. He has played locally and internationally over 20 years. He began his music career in Australia where he studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. While in Australia, Kent played bars, clubs and and made TV appearances with various bands and acts. Kent moved to London and continued to freelance. He has performed from Asia through Europe and North Africa. He is also available for private lessons and new projects. Stay tune for the new record.

    For ten years, New York-based jazz pianist, composer, and recording artist Takeshi Asai has been dazzling audiences in New York, Paris, Tokyo, and other major cities around the world. As a passionate solo pianist and leader of ensembles such as French Trio and New York Trio—among others—Takeshi has released 12 albums. The Jazz Times recently noted that his concerts are always filled with “communion[s] of tender affection,” with other critics acclaiming Takeshi as a “brilliant composer and performer” with “extraordinary artistry, impressive and unlimited virtuosity.” His dazzling piano improvisation and sophisticated compositions have identified Takeshi as a unique talent and set him apart in today’s international jazz scene.

    Matt started studying music at the early age of 7 and switched to the guitar at age 11. By that time his varied listening habits included George Benson, Eric Gale, B.B. King as well as guitarists such as Eric Clapton and Jerry Garcia.
    Before attending University of Miami as a jazz guitar major. Matt studied privately with Josh Breakstone and Gene Bertoncini at Eastman’s summer program. Upon graduation from University of Miami with a jazz guitar degree Matt immerced himself in the cities vibrant music scene. Working most nights of the week in clubs he also made TV and record appearances.

    Subsequently Matt decided to move to New York and concentrate on Jazz. Matt has performed or recorded with Fathead Newman, Grady Tate, Curtis Lundy, Bobby Forrester, Venesa Rubin, Cecil Brooks, Bernie Worrell, Percy Sledge, Lester Chambers and appeared on international TV shows on Telemundo and Nippon networks.

    He currently has weekly gigs at Smoke [weds, 6.30-9pm.] and Cecill’s [Sunday nights] and has recently performed or is scheduled to play at B.B. kings, the Blue Note, and the 55bar among other club engagements. Matt’s recently recorded debut album features David “fathead” Newman and was recorded by Grammy winning Producer Rob Fraboni [Keith Richards,Bob Dylan.]
